I think it's "cleaner" now, but when I lived in Austin, I occassionally used to watch the clownish legislature in my slacker life for entertainment. I suppose in any legislature you get the demented sons of the rural powerful and wealthy, but Texas being so big, you get a lot MORE.

If you could have heard Delay on Hardball, you would have to think that every politician in Texas is on the take or is playing come kind of perverse game. However, I didn't base my comment solely on his comments.

In the late 80s, early 90s, I worked for a firm that bought properties all over the country including Texas. We ran some rehabs on couple of the TX properties. Things became so bad that we had to make sure everything was locked down tight, or it walked off the project. And every invoice and every bid submitted by a contractor had to be closely reviewed to make sure we weren't getting screwed too badly. We constantly had to do price checks on all materials. On top of it all, it turned out the firm's regional manager who was based in Texas was on the take from just about everyone and had to be fired.

It may have been that we just had a string of bad luck and had run into a bad crowd. However, when I see the behavior of Delay, Bush, Rove et al I have to wonder. Do you still live there? What's been your experience?
