Ah, the old absurdity: "Everyone around the world is a clone, nobody is any better than anybody else". <Humans are the same the world over>.

You could probably look at your siblings and see how different people are, even out of the same mother. To think that whole tribes will be the same is silly.

Nature specifically makes things different for the specific purpose of evolutionary success. H5N1 avian flu isn't even all the same. There are many versions, all looking for evolutionary success. Humans are individually different too.

You are of course correct in this: <there are plenty of Americans who think that the only problem with prisoner abuse in Abu Ghraib and other places is that they're made public from time to time.> There are also plenty who think there isn't enough of it, and it's not painful enough, or fatal enough, and that it should be delivered free at 100 megabits per second to their viewer.

It's a matter of numbers and cultural norms.

It's also obvious that with the top guys, such as Gonzales, Rumsfeld and co figuring out how much torture they could legally do, that they were all for it. msnbc.msn.com They wouldn't want the same thing for American soldiers. So they are in the process of relearning why the Geneva conventions were established.
