Don't know if it's been tried yet.
For awhile, the nurseries were selling kiwi plants
that were supposed to be able to grow up here,
and i believe, could be grown in greenhouses,
but for sure, i've never seen Ontario grown kiwis for sale anywhere.

of course, the problem with greenhouses this far north,
is that they require heating in winter.
small greenhouse operators sometimes use wood heat,
but all of the large operations that i know of are using
natural gas heating.

in Leamington, Ontario, i think it's just warm enough
that they can (relatively) economically grow tomatoes
year round, but in my area, the large tomato operation
near me closes down for a couple of months in winter
and seems to use a couple of the segments to start growing
the next batch of plants. my guess is that it doesn't
pay to try to heat all of the greenhouses through January
when the temperatures are usually brutal around here.

i used to grow lemons and limes on trees in my living room
and may return to that if things keep on as they are.
would have kept on doing it, but one morning i got up
and my (then) husky dog -- sort of a devil in a dog skin --
had pulled the trees out of their pots during the night
and chewed all their roots off. bad dog. <g>

anyhow, maybe it would be worth giving avocadoes a try.
must check into the possibility.
