I agree. Although I am a little more sanguine about how quickly the landscape will change, because I think the roosting may happen a little more quickly than I am inferring you do (from your post).

I think the train wreck has to be pretty thorough for a major change. In Iraq, we always have another milestone just a little ways out, and after that it will surely be better. The next few months get us through the major milestones while also taking us past 2K in military deaths which IMO will be a psych wall for lots of people, although others think it will be no big deal.

From what we have seen of the interim Iraqi government, I'm not expecting much better even if the new constitution and a new government get in by the end of the year. It will just be more of the same. What I do expect to happen is that in early 2006, Bush will start some fairly substantial efforts to ensure Reps do well in the midterms. That will be the first serious dealing with roosting chickens.
