"in the olde-style biological world it was a numbers game with bigger numbers showing winning style"

Yet your two examples: a 20 megaton nuke and Google are all about BIGGER NUMBERS. That's the definition of 'success' with both of them. Big booms that kill big and big populations of searches that lead to big money.

T-Rex was big but it's the numbers, beetles-cockroaches-bacteria-mosquitos, that win big. How long have caucasians been in New Zealand? Can you walk down the street and tell caucasians from indigenous peoples?

Mixing doesn't take that long and people can indeed tell DNA from simply looking at and interacting with another. People look for symmetry, good skin, nice breath, etc. as evidence of good genes. No one is out seeking those with obvious genetic problems.

That's another thing, mixing diverse DNA helps to eliminate genetic problem but people most often marry those who could be their sibling. Yet another place where the human species doesn't make darwinian sense.
