Applied Materials Announces 100 Percent Stock Dividend

SANTA CLARA, CALIF. (Sept. 11) BUSINESS WIRE -Sept. 11, 1997--James C.
Morgan, chairman and chief executive officer of Applied Materials,
Inc., announced today that the company's Board of Directors has
authorized a 100-percent stock dividend to holders of the company's
common stock. The dividend shares will be distributed on or about
October 13, 1997 to stockholders of record as of September 25, 1997.
