ON Fall 2005: Sonus Networks -Happy Arms Dealer
09.28.05 | Doug Mohney
An old clich says the only ones who make a profit during a war are arms dealers, selling guns to all sides. If so, Sonus Networks would like to be your dealer in the VoIP arena. It may be premature to call Sonus the "Cisco" of VoIP gear, but they're certainly racking up a lot of mindshare of late.
Sonus' customer list includes the likes of AOL, AT&T, Earthlink, Global Crossing, IDT, Level 3, NTT, Qwest, Time Warner Telecom, Verizon, WebEx, and XO Communications. It is also working with a number of major CPE equipment manufacturers to demonstrate and ensure VoIP device compatibility, including Belkin and Motorola; other manufacturers are likely to join the list once AOL starts rolling out the TotalTalk service.
Earthlink -the most recently announced customer in Sonus's portfolio, doesn't mind that Sonus is selling to everyone. Earthlink company officials are happy enough with Sonus gear to make sure they emphasize that they're building all of their new services around it as the core part of the IP voice network. "We believe there are tremendous opportunities to build and deliver innovative voice communications products and services, and technology shouldn't be a hurdle to future growth," said Steve Howe, vice president of voice services at EarthLink. "Partnering with companies like Sonus will help us expand our service offerings and differentiate us from our competitors." |
