I just got back from Jersey. I could never drive over there, not to mention in Manhattan. My brother in law ferried us around Bergen County and Manhattan, and I nearly had a heart attack several times.

Hey, the weather was great during my few days there.

I had a very interesting Table of Babel experience. My mother in law came with us to Jersey. She has never learned English. My brother in law has two sons from his first marriage, but the sons arrived in this country so young that they forgot their native tongue. Sister in law #2 is Taiwanese. Sister in law's sister in law and niece (who is here studying English) joined us for dinner at a Korean restaurant (in Ft. Lee, I think) one night. So, there was nephew talking with his grandma in French, brother in law talking with my wife in Vietnamese, Sister in law & co. talking with each other in Taiwanese sometimes and Mandarin other times (niece never learned Taiwanese, it seems). And then I'd chime in with my English at such times as anybody else got tired of speaking in any of the other languages.

This must give the term "extended family" new meaning!
