Gasco Energy's Third-Quarter Production More Than Triples on New Wells; Shares Hit New High

DENVER (AP) -- Oil and gas exploration company Gasco Energy Inc. on Monday said third-quarter production more than tripled as the company tapped into new wells during the quarter, pushing shares to a new 52-week high.
The company's shares added 86 cents on the news, or 13 percent, to $7.51 on the American Stock Exchange, topping an earlier high of $6.91. The stock traded for as little as $2.75 a year ago but has been mostly on the rise, along with energy prices, since midsummer.

For the quarter ended Sept. 30, Gasco said net production was 468.2 million cubic feet of natural gas equivalent, up sharply from year-ago production of 138.2 million cubic feet.

The company has drilled 16 new wells so far this year, including five during the quarter. The new wells helped offset production declines in existing wells, Gasco said.

The company is scheduled to report third-quarter financial results on or before Nov. 9.
