Soon it will be like the old days when everyone was tied to the mainframe, only now the mainframe will be the internet. thats an excellent observation. You know, the the grass is always greener. I spent about an hour tonight trying to get rid of spyware on my machine. I hate PCs when they don't "just work". When your mainframe/internet computer, the uptime becomes somebody elses problem (which is not to say google doesn't go down, just that one can be assured they will figure out what it is and get it up). Otoh I like my privacy and ability to do what I want on my PC. Ahhh decisions! :-)
