I can understand how this bunch of incompetents could think that they could win a "war" but I don't understand how they can possibly think that there is going to be anything other than a pull out from Iraq. Maybe they do know. The rhetoric has changed from 'we can't afford to lose' to 'at least we will have tried.' Maybe the only objective they have is to make sure that the pull out doesn't happen during their Administration and it will be the next President's legacy...the Bush Administration tried, the ____ Administration failed.

It's hard to know what they "think" when all they do is engage in spin. How are going to spin today's bad news into something that sounds good? Let's be positive. Karl, what are your thoughts?

I think it's questionable as to the motivation of the Iraqis that are joining the military/police. Their joining to win democracy sounds nice. But we've seen that Shia from the south will seek out jobs in Baghdad. They go from a relatively peaceful southern Iraq to an active war zone to get a job to feed their families. How many Iraqis join the military/police because it's a "job"? Who knows.

This thought drives me up the wall ... "Speaking purely from the vantage of military power, the insurgents don't stand a chance." To paraphrase ~"if the insurgents fought the US on our terms we would kick the shit out them." Ok, but they aren't that stupid. They are going to fight the war on their terms, not ours.

What they could do is exit Iraq. Have the RNC manage a ticker tape parade down Wall Street with confetti, ballons and American flags galore. Let Casey and Bush lead the parade with Casey holding Saddam's head up high for the cameras/crowds. Americans would love it and believe we actually won.
