And if it doesn't? We shall see at that time. My guess is the deteriorating support for a US presence in Iraq will deteriorate more and more, and pressure to depart will be applied by voters, and it will be a major election issue. I believe that if things have not improved dramatically in Iraq by 2008, and the US presence is unchanged, then voters will not elect a politician advocating "stay the course". We shall see.
