It's hard for me to see how the guys at Enron who ruined thousands and thousands of lives, are "better" people than a thug who goes around beating people up. We tend to see white collar "high IQ" crime, that doesn't involve actual physical violence, as somehow "better" than mere thuggery. I'm not sure why that is. I think the man who orders toxic waste to be dumped in an area where it will give 300 people cancer is actually worse than the man who beats up 1 person, or even 10 people. The gross amoung of suffering, it seems to me, is what matters.

But the calculus of suffering will probably differ, depending on who is doing the math.
