Ted, Its not welfare that attracts them here.....its the promise of jobs which are scarce in their homeland. And what they typically do is get 10-15 to a one bdr. apt. The money they save in rent they send back home. The living conditions are on par with those of blacks.

I still remember that humorous comment that a Mexican government official made (was it Fox?). "Mexicans in America take jobs that even blacks won't take." Pardon my "insensitivity," but that made me laugh.

In any case, the amount of money an illegal immigrant would literally die for would make a typical welfare recipient look "rich" in comparison. Ultimately, the issue isn't about the amount of money, but rather the culture of dependence that is fostered by handouts. It doesn't matter whether the amount of welfare is less than minimum wage, because if given the chance, many would choose not working for half as much over busting their chops even for a larger payback.
