We are not accomplishing anything, except getting our folks killed.

We are establishing in the Middle East the roots of the same civil democratic society architecture that has allowed Americans to prosper and do well for the past 200 years. Where in the world have you been? In your mind that is nothing? You've never been oppressed and had zero opportunity to express yourself, denied your freedom of religion or experienced an authoritarian leadership, have you?

In fact making things worse.

How many Iraqis want a return to 20 more years of Saddam followed by 20 year of Uday? Answer = zero. So it's not worse, it's an improvement. If today were worse, people would be calling for Saddam's return. No one (including you) is doing so.

It was none of our business in the first place.

Improving the long term prospects of others is every decent person's business. That's the basic definition of Christianity, as I was raised. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. If you were a subjecy of Saddam, you would want others to remove him. Withdrawing into your own safe, nice environment is the business of well off royalty with no one to answer to. It's that mentality that we want to exterminate.

They don't want us there.

They don't want Saddam back in power. That, unfortunately, is there choice.

What else do you need?

I doubt historians will look back on the removal of the Saddam regime and think it a mistake. Time will tell. But your side (the despot) is likely a losing side.
