Future Growth of Wide Format Aqueous Inkjet Printers Remains Stable, According to InfoTrends/CAP Ventures

(Weymouth, MA) October 04, 2005…Continuous improvements to aqueous inkjet printing supplies have led to widespread adoption of low-end systems for proofing, fine art, and photographic work. InfoTrends/CAP Ventures ( Web Site Executives Related Articles Google) expects total unit shipments to increase from 192,000 in 2004 to 223,665 in 2009, demonstrating a CAGR of 3.1%.

The wide format aqueous inkjet segment maintains the largest installed base worldwide, which drives the largest supplies market. In fact, supplies represented 80% of the wide format aqueous inkjet market’s total revenue in 2004, and this percentage is expected to increase to 84% by 2009.

“Aqueous inkjet is probably the most flexible wide format printing technology on the market today, but it is a mature segment. We believe there are still growth opportunities, but taking advantage of them will require some technological advancements,” commented Tim Greene, a Director at InfoTrends/CAP Ventures. “On the technical side, a significantly faster engine that rivals low-end LED engines in terms of print speed and color capability is needed. On the graphics side, continued improvements in ease-of-use, image quality, and achievability will continue to drive growth in the low-end.”
