TLindt, what's your point -- besides being upset by this latest news? Of course, I've read about Divx. (I presume you mean Divx, not Dvdx).

I'm trying to figure out this DVD stuff out, & how these latest developments may impact DIMD's move into DVD.

While Divx did not get the most favorable reception among non-encrypted DVD supporters, the format does have merit because it will encourage the studios to provide more content. This, in the long run, will create greater demand for DVD equipment. Present concerns about piracy are valid.

IMHO, in the VCR market, there is a clear distinction b/w the rental & purchase market. Disney titles make excellent purchases if you have kids. But otherwise, most VCR content is rented. Rentals generate the revenues studios look to supplement box office receipts. With DVD, it might be another story with the availability of interactive games on the same format.

What's interesting to ponder is how DVD technology will merge the home entertainment center with the PC. DVD seems real promising, but the latest twist indicates its still too early. Especially when it appears major players are still DVDivided on a single format.
