Re: "Blair suspects Iran in Iraq blasts"

Of course... all the surrounding countries are involved in the Iraqi civil war (Saudi and Gulf Arab money financing the Sunni insurgents... Iran's intelligence service involved at the highest levels of the Shiite government, and arming some of the Shi'a militia... Turkey trying to arm the Turkmen minority... Syria allowing border passage to jihadists, etc.)

It seems most unproductive to remain in the middle, interposed between the warring parties, having pot shots taken at us from all comers... allowing the US to be used as a scapegoat to blame for whatever ills the region has.

(Perhaps a far more useful strategy would be to remove our forces... then the normal weight of historical imperatives, the obvious trend, would be for extremists on *both* sides of the Sunni/Shi'a split to become fully occupied battling each other for quite a while... until more rational border lines are agreed to. Most likely the extremists on both sides will ultimately become discredited.)

This process could play out very much in Western interests....
