Actually, I haven't been to the townships for years but I'm sure you're right. A physician I know told me that Baragwanath Hospital will be treating about 10,000 patients with HIV this year with ARVs -- and that's pushing it. So, I imagine SA will have some millions untreated and who doing their best to pass the virus around.

It's actually incredible the state of denial -- or, perhaps, obfuscation is a better word -- that exists in SA about HIV/AIDS. Even in today's Business Day, where I first read the article, it was tucked away on an inside page whereas the front page was covered with a big picture of kidnap killer Moodley who wants his sentence reduced -- as if that's of importance.

I must tell you I live in fear and trepidation of what awaits my grandchildren in a few years' time.
