DiviCom Introduces Powerful, Flexible Development Tool to Merge Data, MPEG Video Streams in Network Setting
New MPEG Media Toolkit Based on PC Platform, Speeds Development of Interactive Applications

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 12, 1997-- DiviCom Inc. (Nasdaq:CUBE - news), a leading provider of digital video networking solutions, today introduced the MPEG Media Toolkit (MMT), an MPEG-based tool kit that enables software developers to quickly write applications that merge high-speed data with MPEG video streams in real-time.

The MPEG Media Toolkit comprises a rack-mountable Windows NT workstation, DiviCom's real-time MPEG I/O board, and a set of application programming interfaces (APIs). Together, these tools let developers easily manipulate, store and inject data into a flexible, reliable multiplexer architecture to speed development of interactive applications -- all while remaining insulated from the intricacies of the MPEG standard. DiviCom will showcase MMT at the International Broadcasters Convention at Amsterdam's International RAI Convention Centre, stand 9.212.

Until now, developers have been limited to injecting data at low speed and have to cope with difficult development procedures and processes. Because MMT features flexible APIs, an open platform, and very high data rates -- up to 80 Mbit/s - developers can now create better-performing applications more quickly.

``Having Windows NT as the backbone for the MPEG Media Toolkit gives it considerable flexibility while providing for an economical and scalable platform for application development,'' said Frank Franczyk, Director of Wireless Multimedia Systems at InfoMagnetics Technologies Corporation. ``MMT meets our requirement for an open, standards-based platform for injecting different types of data within an MPEG transport stream. We are using it to develop niche information service applications for our customers.''

``The world is entering a new era, when video and data will merge, and the MPEG Media Toolkit demonstrates that DiviCom is leading this evolution,'' said Tom Lookabaugh, senior vice president and general manager, DiviCom. ``MMT sets DiviCom apart from other broadcast digital video companies by recognizing the need to deliver both data and video in a network setting. These applications will become increasingly important in the days ahead.''

According to DiviCom's Lookabaugh, initial applications of MMT are likely to include data carousel creation, EPG injection, PSI/SI generation, satellite-based Internet data applications, conditional access platform development, and digital ad insertion.

Features for Application Building

MMT supports standard DVB ASI I/O, standard input interfaces (including RS-232, 10/100 Mbit Ethernet, etc.) a data input rate of up to 40 Mbit/s real time or 80 Mbit/s of unidirectional output, and rapid development architecture. Knowledge of MPEG is not necessary, which will represent tangible savings in development resources for most organizations.

Availability

MMT is available now to independent software developers and DiviCom customers. In addition, MMT is a key component of DiviCom's Internetworking via Satellite solution for handling MPEG over IP traffic via satellite.
