Alright, the only channel VWKM is concerned with right now is New Screen TV. New Screen is being broadcast from Orlando, Fl...24 hours-a-day/7 days-a-week/365 days-a-year right now. The catch is (it's a big one) that you can only get it with an antenna. AND the viewing radius is to a very small, but extremely cultured audience(Big Money). Notice this post from RB.
By: barrelproofbob 07 Oct 2005, 05:41 PM EDT Msg. 274 of 274 Jump to msg. # I talked to some people in Orlando a few weeks ago and they said Newscreen channel 29 was on the air and some art stuff was on. They said the signal was clear and looked good!!
This is the signal coverage area:
fcc.gov O.K. so it seems VWKM has acquired a station(Channel 29 Orlando) AND intends deliver it to "50 mil households in America"(Not to mention Europe and the rest of the world). So now the question is: What is the product?
The company has acquired the broadcast rights to several 100 independent movies, documentaries, short films, animations, etc. and continues to review additional programming as it becomes available to increase its programming library for Broadcast on its TV channel 29 in Orlando, Florida, and for use with its programming packages being made available to cable and media outlets throughout the United States, these outlets will be cable systems, pay per view outlets, satellite providers and possibly via broadband over the internet.
The product is the brilliant part because it is absolutely free to the company. It's kinda like selling bottled water(all you want for next to nothing). Rick Astrom told me that broadcast rights for a TV show for thirty minutes averages about $2000.00...that's $4000.00 an hour...$96000.00 a day...or $35,040,000 a year. This gives New Screen a huge advantage over stations who have to pay this expense. New Screen has OSCAR winning shows that they are already broadcasting for FREE. This is the same formula MTv used when they started up. As Astrom pointed out today, the station has a "synergistic" win/win relationship with the artist so that both can advance. Here is part of a PR for one of their shows that will begin broadcast in December(coordinated with the launch of OEN-which will discussd later in this post).
Vision Works Media Group, Inc. Academy Award-Winning Film `Young at Heart' Added to New Screen TV Programming Lineup
Ms. Marx has produced over 200 films, and has won numerous Emmys(R) and other awards in addition to her Oscar(R). "Young at Heart" was awarded the Oscar(R) for Best Short Documentary, www.suemarxfilms.com.
So why buy a station? Had to. Mark said not producing a product would be like showing up in a "wife beater with a box of tapes and telling the Distributors 'Hey, I gotta great idea for a channel'. It would be like an artist running around with a blank canvas and a brush saying "Man i'm gonna paint something great soon...give me money and I'll show you". So, Channel 29 is the canvas.
But they needed someone to bring it together. Enter Rick Erikson..I have spoke to him twice.

P.S. I did speak to Rick Erikson twice. He was very enthusiastic and said the company already has six affiliate agreements in the works(Dallas, Houston, Salt Lake City, and three others). Of course, this won't matter if they are diluting rampantly. We will never overcome the rate of dilution if management doesn't care about the share price.
Like I said, "this one's thin"..."yeah, real thin"..."anorexic" - (Lethal Weapon)
God Bless - No Doubt cris Notice the date? He told me this way before the PR came out. If you do some DD on him you can see that he has helped establish Direct Tv. He is also a life member of the Marine Corps Association. Clearly not a quitter.
(From the website)
Mr. Erikson’s responsibilities as General Manager & Executive Vice President are to manage the daily operations of New Screen Television, Inc. He is also directly responsible for the sales, marketing, and advertising sales of the service.
So now they need a way to broaden their audience. Rick has helped them sign with OEN(Optical Entertainment Network). They specialize in fiber optics to the home. They are giving a launch date of December in Houston, TX. This doesn't sound too good since now we have a start-up(VWKM) coupled with a start-up(OEN). EXCEPT you said you love FTTH which gives more credence to Rick Erikson's statement:
We are thrilled to have completed this agreement with OEN - they are an outstanding company and their FISION service is going to run circles around the older cable operators in the coming decades," said Rick Erikson, New Screen TV's General Manager. "Houston is the 10th largest DMA (market) in the U.S., and Dallas/Ft. Worth is the 7th largest, so we have now achieved one of our prime goals in securing the best possible distribution for New Screen TV in multiple top-ten metro areas."
Furthermore, OEN sounds legit since they have an agreement with HDnet, which was founded by Mark Cuban, the Billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks (Texas again).
I called New Screen Tv today to ask a a few questions. Ended up on the phone with Mark Astrom(I was really calling for Rick since he hasn't been attacked by investors 1000's of times).
1. Is OEN the only avenue being pursued to broadcast New Screen TV?
Mark said "No" and noted per PR:
Vision Works Media Group, Inc. Announces Multiple Written Negotiations Are Underway With Cable Distributors and Other Outlets for Its Programming
2. When are we going to get revenues from OEN?
Mark said that we are part of OEN's BASIC PACKAGE which is quite an accomplishment. The basic package is 100 channels so we are 1 in 100. That means that EVERY SUBSCRIBER who get OEN's Fiber Optic Service will get New Screen TV. And we will get paid two ways.
First of all, we will get paid by OEN on a monthly basis per total subscriptions for OEN's service. OEN's checks will start coming in January IF they launch in December. I asked him how much we would make per subscriber, and he said he didn't want to jeopardize future negotiations with other distributors, but would say that ESPN gets $3.00 per(yes this is an extreme example but a least it give us a feel for the industry).
Secondly, revenues will come through advertising, which will be directly related to the number of subscribers. I asked for an industry example and he said that the breakdown is as follows:
Typically a Broadcast station has 7 minutes of commercials in every HALF HOUR of programming. So, TV channels charge by the second. If we wanted to advertise on OPRAH then the cost per second is $1000.00...this is an extreme example, but let's do the math for one hour of OPRAH. Oprah's show is for one hour so that's 14 minutes. 14 x 60 = 840 . 840 x $1000.00 = $840,000 . Oprah, not bad for an hours work. So, with that in mind, what might a broadcast station make in a day? $840,000 an hour is obviously the crown jewel..so why don't we use a low ball figure for an average hour like 50,000. Then 50,000 x 24 = $1,200,000 a day...or $438,000,000 a year....just in advertising.
With all that said, I do want to say that I went into this deal as a total skeptic. That's why I have put ALL the DD I could find on this thread. I think a basher would be hard pressed to find dirt I don't already know about. I have already posted the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. I am now reasonably sure that this is not a scam. It may be a bad investment, but there is way too much info availiable on New Screen, OEN, and partners there-of for this to be a scam. What we have here is basically a matter of opinion and timing. First, I have to decide IF I think the product is viable. Then I have to time my entry based upon when REAL money will be coming in. So far, JOE INVESTOR(You and I) has been paying the bills/purchase of station/salaries/etc....this could change real fast. Will we see another R/S before profitability comes? Dunno..maybe, probably...I guess it all depends on if OEN launches on time in Houston and/or if they get another platform sooner.
I don't know it that answers your question on if there are any buyers or not. At this point I would say "not". Why else would we be so very low after such a barrage of PR's. Anyway, I hope you can piece all this together..it's kinda like PULP FICTION in that it's a jumbled mess that comes together in the end.
To be continued...
