"The liberal Democrats are keeping their mouth shut on this, because they are afraid of the alternative. In a way... shame on them."

I don't agree. I've had some conversations with a woman on another thread that worked with and for Ms. Miers for seven years in Dallas in the law firm Ms. Miers headed. I think Bush has misread and misunderestimated Ms. Miers. Even the former employee thinks that Bush would could have picked another Roberts type, and that Ms. Miers isn't as qualified as many, many other candidates.
I think Bush has mistaken hard work and loyalty for agreement with what he believes in. The chimp may be more concerned in putting Miers forward that he may PERSONALLY need her vote on some issues before the court soon than advancing any kind of "conservative agenda". The alternative would have been a Bork without a weird little beard.
This is the best the Dems could have hoped for from the chimp. Let the right-wingnuts reject her and destroy their own President.
