re: What exactly was it?
It was a vote on a new "energy" bill to incent the oil companies to build refineries. But it also relaxed pollution controls, not only for new refineries but also existing refineries. And it's another give away to a sector that is seeing windfall profits at the expense of citizens, because of a natural disaster.
Normally you get a vote regular vote in the house, it takes about 10-15 minutes. The Republicans didn't have to votes, so they stalled, and started arm twisting, Delay and Hastert and the rest, until it passed by two votes, after over an hour for the vote. Another great example of the pols putting the special interests ahead of the people.
So as they are anouncing the vote, almost all the Dems in the chamber start chanting "Shame, Shame...", really loud, almost drowning out the chair. Quite a moment, never seen it before.
It was on the afternoon news, but seems to disappear as a story by the evening news. Why the news media won't cover the systemic corruption in our government is beyond me.
