Because the Katrina induced adult onset testicular generation is an uncomfortable thing. They've gotten so used to diving for cover when ever Congress or the administration does something stupidly newsworthy that they just can't help themselves. But the corruption thing isn't going away, it is just getting incrementally worse as time goes on. At some point, the lid is going to blow off...

It's going to be an awful mess. The Republican leadership in Congress is unraveling in several places. The White House is imploding. The reflexive need to reward big contributors at every turn is catching up with Congress. And the implications to our country of Katrina and Rita are still simmering under the surface and have yet to be felt.

So many things coming to a head at the same time, any one of which could have signaled a major change in direction for the country. It is almost as if God wants to make a point.
