Actually I don't even believe Japan has ever established any official romanji spelling of the countries name. That is as far as I know up to whatever way the foreign nations prefer to do it. They don't even recognize foreign names in their family books in Japan. My wife still being a Japanese citizen thus is know the Japan by her maiden name only. Taro
