I like your solution better - the pregnant woman doesn't have to suffer pregnancy unless she chooses to. Another problem I have with the "pro-life" people is that once the feti pop, they tend to abdicate any responsibility from that point on. It's as if for them, "unborn" children are somehow more valuable than born children. I think this has it's root in the religiosity of the "pro-life" position, that the "unborn" child is without sin, but once it's born, it's afflicted with original sin like the rest of us. Which is just so much superstitious hokum peculiar to some Christian sects.
