You can see from this monograph that Namenda is Memantine, sold in Germany as Akatinol Memantine.

Years ago a drug chemist told me that Memantine is the principle metabolite of Amantadine, although there are seven other metabolites of lessor quantity. I don't know this first hand, but Memantine has always worked as well as Amantadine with fewer odd psycho-neuro side effects, so I've had no reason to question this.

If I had the early symptoms of Bird Flu, I would use Relenza, Tamiflu, Memantine, Interferon-alpha and Interferon-Gamma. Add some Zofran for nausea, aspirin and opium for fever and pain and pray. Obviously if you didn't catch the disease early enough, and hospital facilties were still available, ozygen and repirators may become neccessary.

Clearly if there were a vaccine available at an earlier date, I would have taken it.

What texts would give you an overview of immune response? That's a very good question. I was a Board member and CFO of a non-profit for ten years which funded medical research in this areas. So I had to learn enough to be able to understand what we were funding. The person who gave me the best comprehensive picture was a Molecular Biologist from Russia who works at a research lab at Huntington Memorial Hospital. We hired him part-time for a few years.

The best place to obtain up to date diagrams outlining the interconnections of different immune cells and the role of cytokines is from companies which provide reagents and biological tags for Flow Cytometry. They are often free, and include the latest discoveries, to help you understand which of their products to purchase.

As the field is changing so quickly, Medical Journals in the field are superior to books as a book too many years old will describe information long since amended.

You will discover that research into the immune system all but stopped after antibiotics were discovered, and did not begin again in earnest until laser diffraction Flow Cytometry was developed.

You will also discover that there are over-lapping names and descriptions of immune cells and function. Some descriptions are focused on activity while others are focused on cell structure. The truth is the morphology and function of these cells is more fluid than the descriptions imply.

A basic structure to keep in mind is the difference between Th-1 (cellular immune response) and Th-2 (antibody immune response). Th-1 normally precedes and gives rise to Th-2, but use of cytokines can push the immune response back to Th-1 from Th-2, which is far more effective in fighting an active disease.
