Thoughts on Bird Flu...

The US Goverment hasn't bothered to pre-order much vaccine. Why? I think because they only see positives by letting a flu pandemic spread.

Those main positive is "Deaths to the elderly (retired folk)". That demographic group would have the highest mortality rate by far.

1. The more elderly that die the better it is for Social security given it's future looming deficit.
2. Fewer elderly means less burden on the upcoming prescription drug program.
3. Accelerates when elderly will pass on inheritance to children...who'll spend it and help the economy.
4. Frees up real estate in hot areas like arizona and florida.

No don't worry, there will be plenty of flu vaccine for the well connected and the wealthy. The wealthy can buy it today from Canada.

Based on simple cost-benifit analysis, it makes most sense for the government to drag it feet and do virtually no preperation.
