MiniKnights - 19

The Packers were down 19-7 at halftime.

Each coach had thier own version of an inspirational
Lombardi speech that we gave the kids while they sat
eating their quartered oranges and sipped gatorade.

Stuff about never quitting.
The game is not over.
That other team is not beating us. Our mistakes are
beating us.
Several other talks like this while the kids'
eyes glazed over.

Blah blah blah football blah blah blah win blah blah go get them...

Then I thought of something.
I took the football we had been using during the
first half and I told them this here is the bad
luck ball that caused us three fumbles. We are
putting this one away. Timmy, give me the good luck ball
out of the bag. I announced the new football as
the good luck ball.

The kids sort of looked at me as if I were nuts.
But at least it made them smile for the first time
during this game.

It seemed to shake the bad mojo off of everyones
shoulders.

We played a perfect 2nd half and scored with a minute
left in the game to win it.

Whatta thriller.

What a beautiful day it turned into.

The magic of the lucky football.
(And the power of sticky oranges to help the kids hold
onto it.)
