I have repeatedly said that it has nothing to do with someone being offended. I could care less if someone's feeling get hurt. You have it half right about the Church of England, but the reason behind that separation is really about the balance of power. When the state and religion are too closely tied there is an imbalance of power. Historically when the two most powerful entities in public life are too closely linked abuses occurred. The founders knew that power corrupts. That is why there are so many checks and balances in our system. That is why we have a separation of church and state. That is the intent of the founders words. jb
