By "methodically research" I was referring to the methodology of scientific experimentation. My point was that for virtually millions of years they had no essential knowledge base on fundamental laws so they had to imagine answers to all the unknowns. Example, why does the thunder roar, the lightning strike, and the rain fall? Answer: "some powerful Being opens up the dome of the heavens to allow water through." Or, why do people get leprosy, etc.? Old answer: "because they have "demons" inside them." Answer based on experimentation and scientific research: "They have bacteria or viruses or chemical imbalances inside them." This not to downplay the insights of Lao Tsu or Gautama.
