According to the "expert", the flu killed more soldiers in 1918 than the war did because of their better physical/immune condition.

That was also suggested by John Barry in his book "The Great Influenza." With the new finding that the 1918 virus went deep into the lungs and the vigorous immune response that healthy young adults have, it's no wonder that they were unable to get oxygen and literally turned blue before they died.
