On CNN last night Sanja Gupta, M.D. (who I assume checked his facts) said that the 1918 flu mortality was 5%. If avian flu is at 50% or higher, that is amazing.

He also mentioned the Nanomask by name and suggested Tamilflu as a stopgap. Of course, Tamilflu is selling out, even if it provides modest protection.

I don't think that 2005 America could cope with a disaster of pandemic proportions without anarchy, IMHO. Times and people have changed; expectations of health and safety have changed. People don't want to die from a flu! You going to quarantine major U.S. cities?! For how long?

Bet no one in the White House or Congress gets the flu.
