I think that part of your problem is that you do not understand the English language.

Lets go back to the law as written:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.

The law first states that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion,"...

In this case the word establishment follows the indefinite article "an". Indefinite articles, a and an, precede singular nouns in speech and writing.

Therefore the Bill of Rights was speaking about an "establishment of religion", not the "establishment" of a religion, wherein the word "establishment" could be used as a verb, adverb or a noun. They were speaking of the Church...any Church. And they were speaking of the elements that make up that "establishment of religion". That would include writings, buildings and monuments.

Many critics of democracy often said that it would not work, because the ignorant masses would not understand the meaning of the laws and responsibilities. I've often hoped that they were wrong in their assessment and in the whole I believe they were, but you prove them right in this instance.
