Yes, 1960s, in some ways, but it is more of a 21st century job. I'm sure they have more modern communications and computing technology at work. I understand the technology was largely bought from Russia, so it's not even home-grown.
I wonder whether 100s of MIRV ICBMs will be far behind. Gulp!! China is planning a war against Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, USA, Australia and anyone else who backs Taiwan's independence.
China is like Adolf's Germany, wanting to take back territory that once upon a time, for a while anyway, was part of the olde empire. Adolf went swooping into various parts of Europe, until the allies told him that was enough and it was all on.
Once China has Taiwan, they might as well continue. They've got Tibet. Mongolia might as well be a protectorate. Once they get the megalomania bit between their teeth, there'll be no stopping them. Not without a lot of grief anyway. That's what happens with empire builders, like the Japanese. First they take what is "historically theirs", then they get expansionary ideas to control markets and interests further afield.
There are a bunch of islands, parts of Vietnam, India too needs sorting out. Singapore is Chinese, so they should join up. Indonesia has a lot of Chinese who need protecting. Philippines should be Asian, not American. Iran is part of the oil supply picture and there are many client states in Africa to be colonized and provide liebensraum.
