Centrist views are not very dramatic, Solon. We could sit here and take potshots at the right and the left all day, but speaking for myself, I wouldn't find it very interesting. Everyone has an opinion and various others bits of their anatomy. That doesn't mean I want them jammed in my face every day.
Calm, reasonable opinions are welcome. However, most devotees of controversy expend their passion on cheerleading one partisan view and bashing anyone on the other side in playground pissing matches. That is expressly forbidden on this thread.
If that makes thread useless for you, my apologies A few of us find this to be a pleasurable, interesting, basher-free refuge to discuss what interests us.
If you look over the pattern of news links as a whole, you will see a picture where self-serving partisan politics are failing on the right, while the left remains disorganized and unsure/unable to create an effective message. That leaves those of us in the center waiting for the following:
a) will the right have a sudden revelation that they are going down a self-destructive path and tack back to the middle?
b) will the left find a unified message like Clinton's DLC message in 1992 that could unify the majority of the electorate that now opposes Bush and his policies?
c) will a general revulsion with partisan politics spawn a new space in the political center where a dedicated centrist could take a 20-30% moderate base and take 15% each from the right and the left to build a centrist governing majority?
Lots of questions, and an interesting path to finding the answers. Much of that path will be news articles and links to articles that make us think.
If you want to argue with someone, there are dozens of other political threads to rehash the same tired crapola for the 9,875,674th time. |
