A series of public hearings on a proposal to build an all-Alaska natural gas pipeline from the North Slope to Valdez have been canceled pending release of details on the state's negotiations with the major North Slope oil producers.

The Alaska Gasline Port Authority, a municipal consortium led by the Fairbanks North Star Borough and the city of Valdez, had requested hearings in Valdez, Anchorage and Fairbanks, but pulled the plug when it became clear that a proposed contract between the state and the producers group--BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc., Exxon Mobil and ConocoPhillips--wouldn't be made public in time for a comparison.
