I read somewhere yesterday that Kerkorian was taking whatever regulatory steps are necessry to increase his stake in GM, which suggests to me that he isn't looking for an exit strategy but for a way to maximize the returns on his plan.

I do not buy it.
Captain Kirk is advertzing.
Last week he announced he would buy "up to" 10% of GM
He can do that without any regulatory BS
He already owns over 9%

Point of announcement?
Advertizing in an attempt to support share prices.
Personally I hope he loses his ass.

I would not be surprised however if on that "beam me up" ramp job he started where GM went from 27 to 37 and he bought at 32 if when it went to 37 he sold a bunch of deep ITM covered calls against it. Say strike 20 or whatever. That way he locked in a juicy dividend and booked $5 in profit as well (protecting him to a fall of $15). A great trade IF he did it. I proposed it at the time but have no idea what he is thinking.
