I think K. probably assumes that the Feds will never let an American flagship co. such as GM go down the gurgler.

A BK would result in the fopping off of pension liabilities to the Government, a reduction in Union influence, a reduction of the level of debt, a reduction in wages, and a number of other things which would be very nice to the stock.

K. surely doesn't see a bankruptcy liquidation on the horizon, and I don't either.

This is of course all speculative. Who knows what K. really thinks. You surely won't see me buying GM.
