MQ, SoT, it is expensive to live above a certain latitude since you need a life support system to keep any building warm.

A house, clothing are all more expensive, you need two set of tires, all that added together make cheaper to live far from the earths pole.

Cheap fuels made affordable to live in that high latitudes. High oil prices will make it more expensive. My Canadian friends were telling (20 years ago when fossil fuels were cheaper) of older people spending winters in Florida since it as cheaper than pay to heat their homes up north and they had more fun.
