Boy! I was on vacation in the Outer Banks of North Carolina the week of Oct 2 thru the 8th and wasn't paying any attention to what was happening to LUCENT's price. I could have sold everything I had on the 4th when LUCENT closed at $3.43 and walked away with something better than I'm going to wind up with in the coming days.

Like I said in a past post, I intended to get out of LUCENT a few days before the coming earnings are announced ... at least that was my intention back then. Now the market is tanking and the scenario has changed ... just like the weather.

I guess I'll have to change my plans as the lyrics of the old (1929) song by Howard Dietz (w) and Arthur Schwartz (m) ... sung by Fred Astaire and Jack Buchanan in the 1953 motion picture "The Band Wagon" goes ... uh!

No matter what I do with LUCENT I'll be taking a big loss.

As of yesterday my adventures in the stock market (includes other stock I own plus mutual funds and such) are now at a loss compared to their value on December 31, 2004. Seems things have been like that for the last four years ... UP then DOWN then UP then DOWN ... etc., etc., etc., and so-forth and so-on. Actually, I could go back further than the end of 2004 and make a comparison ... how 'bout 2003 or 2002 or 2001.

I'd hate to be in one of Bush's private accounts instead of my present Social Security program and have had to have been making withdrawals in the last four to five years. I haven't done the math but I'd probably be just about at the bottom of the barrel by now.
