Re: "mentioning the 90% number"
It has been confirmed in numerous US military briefing, and by our & British Intelligence services, and repeated under oath before Congress.
... It's also quite reasonable, IMO, and actually represents a bit of a bright point, indicating that foreign, non-Iraqi, combatants are not pouring in, across the borders, in massive numbers --- despite whatever the insurgents claim.
To me that indicates that the environment might not be especially supportive of the foreigners (certainly the Sunni al Qaeda organization will find little support among the Shiite south... especially since they have repeatedly called for the bombing of Shiite holy sites), nor will the Iranian-backed Shiite militias such as Hesbollah, find much support among the Sunni population.
There is, after all, a civil war going on. Patriotic 'Iraqis' are taking one side or the other... but polling indicates that the one thing *both* Shi'a and Sunni agree on is that they want ALL FOREIGNERS OUT. (That includes us, AND the foreign fighters.) |
