This reminds me of the "Y2K" scare back in 1999. The people who are coming up with worst case scenarios either (a) don't know crap about biology and the history of human health, or (b) are in a position to financially benefit from the money spent on "eliminating" the threat.

The whole 3rd world did nada to stave off Y2K and not a single disaster happened. Among design engineers who actually design microcircuitry, the whole thing was considered hilarious but the government spent millions and millions of dollars making companies waste money and time doing stuff like writing up Y2K compliance reports.

The whole rest of the world didn't write up those reports and escaped untaxed and unpunished.
