I have amazing talents. None of which seem to be making me wealthy, however.
Seriously, it may be a problem with your setting up your dialogues as adversarial in tone, even if you now acknowledge them as worthy, and not taking the time to examine and respond to the actual challenge more thoughtfully.
For example, someone asked you what you would do if your child were asked to participate in a prayer to a god that doesn't fit your defined deity, and if you answered, I missed it.
So your child comes home and says, dad, we have to pray before every practice to Zeus and ask him for unity and courage. Coach says all the Olympic games were dedicated to him, so we have to all ask him for strength, blah blah, and I didn't want to do it because that would be putting other gods before Him, but coach said, hey this is about team bonding and unity and the other guys said, you jerk. (Teens not being terrible articulate)
