It has never been considered offensive for all that time.

It's always useful to look at what changed.

But there are other things that have changed, too. One of them is the law. The law 23 years ago is not the law now. Another of them is diversity. We are more diverse now. Another is the people are more aware of and insistent upon their rights.

It's not about being offensive. It's about being exclusionary, disrespectful, un-teamlike in what is supposed to be a team-building educational experience. Decent people regardless of religion don't do that. And it's about violation of religious rights.

You wouldn't stand for dhimitude. Why should football players or their parents put up with the Christian version of it?
