clapper- What is the Army saying now for their reason? the army is not removing it. their concession holders are removing it (CCDC - cochiti tribe) because the army terminated their lease for not maintaining the marina for the last five years. the contract says that upon termination the concession holder will remove the infrastructure or be charged for its removal. the history and events leading up to this would take me all night to relate... it's a very complex situation and difficult to explain... don't ask. <g> the situation is still unfolding and the future of boating facilities now includes participation by NM congressman udall's office (thanks to kathleen). the removal began monday (columbus day - not just a coincidence) but has hit a snag and other scenarios may transpire - the removal is on hold for a while. this is not necessarily a good sign. Did CCDC buy the property and now gonna build condos there? no. CCDC is anti-development and anti-capitalist. their actions are motivated by anger at columbus (onate, actually) and their financial decisions are not related to normal profit and loss or capital preservation concerns... their income is generated from slip rents and federal grants. none of it is earmarked for maintenance, marina operations or capital preservation/replacement. they get their money for nothin' and their chicks for free. this is not a criticism... merely an observation and reporting. i have reservations about the wisdom of pure capitalism myself. Cochiti is a NO WAKE lake! -dustbin ************************* re: kathleen's nephews Take 'em to a Lobos game. great call... but they stayed here for three daze and started smelling like fish. they went back to phoenix yesterday. <VBG> i took 'em to the duck pond to meet and feed the ducks and geese. the older one, chase - age five, warned me that i had stepped in duck poop and that i should not be smoking near him because he is allergic to smoke. i thanked him. i cleaned the poop off my shoe and told him to stand upwind of the uncle. i set them up with their video games on my tv and on my computer and helped them with their compressed air toy motorcycle. their mom took them to ride the tram up to the crest to see the snow and she took them to the zoo. i think they had a good time. they are great little boys. i did not ask them what love is, your post came too late. <g> -duck poop (siouxp's pal)
