Before he assumed office Clinton met with Greenspan who explained to Clinton that if the deficit could be reduced the federal government would be borrowing less - and the fed could reduce interest rates - which would boost the economy.

Clinton proposed a deficit reduction plan that controlled spending and included a tax increase - which passed the Senate 51 to 50 with Republicans screaming that it was the end of the world. Instead, deficits declined, rates went down and we saw 8 years of growth and the end of deficits.

Bush cut taxes - and now deficits are back big time - and he's blaming everything but his tax cuts.

By the way, be careful about knocking Canada's health care system. It works pretty well. Your man Bush proposed importing drugs from Canada as one way to reduce health care costs...
