I saw Varkonyi playing on tv this week. He was having a good time, though he got busted out fairly early. Still, he was all smiles. After all, he is a world champion, in the main event, no less, so he has probably not paid an entry fee out of his own pocket since 1992. <G>

What size bet do you need to make to make Bill Gates nervous? <VBG>

There are two types of successful pros. The stars, like Varkonyi and Helmuth and Jesus Ferguson, who get everything comped by somebody and make millions a year. There there are the grinders, who make $25,000 to $200,000 a year playing for smaller stakes and trying to avoid a huge loss. I think I have worked my way up to grinder status on the internet.

You probably have the skills to start off as a high level grinder and work your way up to star.

Just a note: as far as somebody paying your way into tournaments, it doesn't matter how much money you make in cash games. If you haven't won or finished high in some well publicized tourneys, you won't get backing.
