Separation of church and state is an American foundation. Without it, we might as well let the Hare Krishnas, crooked Televangelists, Mullahs and Scientologists move right into DC and stay there because nothing sane or rational would ever get done again. It would start one big holy war.

Of course the only real threat to our government in terms of churches are the extremist evangelicals. They have tried hard to make coup d'etats during the Bush administration, for instance, infiltrating our Air Force to try to turn that into an evangelical dictatorship.
