No, I don't think they've learned their lesson. You have a centrist crowd, which moves back and forth between left and right. Then you have far lefties and far righties who seem to have gotten even more polarized. So what I think is that we are in for a period of time where the variability in leadership will increase. It would be far preferable to have a centrist gov't most of the time, but now we are going to be swinging left in the next election and then maybe right in the one after that and so forth. That is what polarization does. It creates variability and instability.

What you say is true but there is something very fundamental that creates problems for me and a lot of other people. The extreme righties and even some centrist righties, more so than the extreme lefties, do not deal in truth. I don't know whether they think people are stupid or whether people are not listening, but they say the most outrageous of things that have very little grounding in fact. And frankly, I've had enough of it. I am all for compromise.....but the compromise has to be based on fact and logic, and not fable or imaginative fabrication.

In addition, people like Karl Rove have taken public discourse, elections and governmental dissemination of important info, and dropped them down to a new, lower level. There is a growing smell in this country that is fairly offensive and very hard for me to accept.
